Grants — how we apply

You do not need Python, GitHub, or coding. Use this site and Google Drive. If something looks broken or a portal needs a tech assist, ask the grant lead or treasurer.

Site: board.apexstem.org (board / finance / admin only)

Right now — what needs the board

# Grant Deadline Ask What you do Open
1 AAUW Community Action (girls in STEM) LOI by Sep 17 (opens Aug 17) $20,000 Confirm girls’ participation numbers, then approve LOI Checklist · LOI draft
2 Post Foundation Oct 1 $10,000 Review draft, approve packet, submit online Checklist · Full draft
3 Honda (education) Opens fall 2026 TBD Finish readiness packet; watch for open window Opportunities list

Fastest help you can give this week

For AAUW: send how many girls are on the team (or in technical roles: CAD / build / test / data). We cannot invent those numbers.

Simple workflow (everyone)

1. Open the checklist for that grant (link above)
2. Read the draft / LOI — suggest edits in email or a board call
3. Treasurer confirms money packet (W-9, bank, budget lines)
4. One person submits on the funder’s website
5. Confirmation PDF goes in Google Drive (not email forever)
6. Tell the grant lead so status can be updated to “submitted”

Before anyone hits Submit

  • [ ] We confirmed Apex is allowed to apply (not “schools only” / wrong program)
  • [ ] Ask amount is a real number (not “TBD”)
  • [ ] W-9 + determination letter ready in Drive
  • [ ] Nonprofit bank / payable path ready
  • [ ] No student names or home addresses in what we upload

These looked promising on a scraped list but fail on the official sites:

  • “Lindemann” / Quinn’s Corner — DV survivors & pets, not STEM
  • Burns & McDonnell STEM — school staff only (not our nonprofit alone)
  • Panasonic Challenge (CFNJ) — Newark students
  • Toshiba America Foundation — classroom teachers; after-school clubs usually out
