Narrative blocks — reuse across applications

For board members: Copy pieces into applications. Do not invent student names, private details, or participation percentages. Prefer real outcomes over hype.

If a block says [N] or [edit], replace with a real number before anyone submits.

Who we are (short)

Apex STEM Education Inc. is a New Jersey 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 42-3121570) that provides grades 6–12 students with hands-on STEM through engineering, data-driven problem solving, AI literacy, and leadership. Our flagship program is competitive STEM Racing; Ridge Racers NJ is a program of Apex STEM Education.

Who we are (longer)

Many middle and high school students never get to design, build, test, and present real engineering work. School budgets rarely cover competition-grade tools, travel, or portfolio coaching. Apex STEM Education gives students a legal, accountable home for applied STEM — starting with STEM Racing teams and expanding into workshops in data analytics and responsible AI use. Adults mentor; students own the engineering, enterprise, and presentation deliverables.

Need / problem

Independent student teams struggle without a nonprofit sponsor: they lack tax-exempt fundraising, grant eligibility, insurance frameworks, and continuity when graduating seniors leave. Families and mentors absorb costs that should be mission-funded. Foundations seeking workforce-ready STEM outcomes need a credible NJ partner with measurable results — not one-off bake sales.

Solution / program

Students progress through a full engineering cycle: CAD design, manufacturing planning, physical build, instrumented testing, data analysis, and judged presentations. Enterprise roles cover budgeting, sponsorship stewardship, and project management. Mentors enforce safety and learning standards while keeping work student-led. Flagship proof point: Ridge Racers NJ reached 3rd place at STEM Racing USA National Finals 2026 and earned Sustainability and Team Identity awards.

Impact / evaluation

We measure success by: (1) competition and portfolio outcomes; (2) skill growth across the four pillars (engineering, data, AI literacy, leadership); (3) access — number of students served and scholarship support; (4) stewardship — transparent budgets and sponsor/grant reporting. Public results and process documentation live on apexstem.org and ridgeracersnj.com.

Use of funds (template — edit numbers)

Grant funds will support [materials / tools / travel / scholarships / workshops] for the 2026–27 season, enabling approximately [N] students in grades 6–12 to complete design–build–test–present cycles. No funds will be used for lobbying. Related-party transactions with any affiliated LLC, if any, follow board conflict-of-interest policy at arm’s length.

Sustainability

Apex combines foundation grants, corporate sponsorships, individual donations (Zeffy), and modest family cost-sharing. Year 1 focus is one competitive team plus grant-readiness infrastructure; multi-year goal is additional teams and workshops under the same umbrella without fragmenting donor relationships.

Diversity / girls in STEM (for AAUW-style funders)

Adapt only with truthful participation data. Example structure: “Our program actively recruits and retains girls and underrepresented students in engineering roles — not only enterprise or presentation tracks. Mentors set expectations that technical roles are open to all students; we track role distribution each season and pair newer members with peer mentors.”

Environment / energy (for NEEF / Constellation-style funders)

Adapt using real work: sustainability award recognition, material choices, efficiency testing, or data-backed design tradeoffs. Avoid greenwashing; cite specific student decisions and measurements.

Closing / ask

We request $[AMOUNT] to fund [SPECIFIC LINE ITEMS] by [DATE]. Apex STEM Education will acknowledge the funder per guidelines, report outcomes within [X] months of project end, and continue building NJ STEM capacity beyond a single competition season.
